Tattoo Aftercare FAQs

Clear answers to common questions about caring for your new tattoo, helping you avoid mistakes and keep your ink vibrant.

  • Is it normal for my tattoo to peel?

Yes, peeling is part of the healing process. Avoid picking or scratching to prevent scarring and color loss.
  • Can I apply sunscreen on my tattoo?

Use sunscreen only after the tattoo has fully healed to protect it from fading caused by UV exposure.
  • What type of moisturizer should I use?

Choose a fragrance-free, non-spf lotion to keep the skin hydrated without clogging pores. Such as Aveeno, Curel, or Lubriderm.

  • Is it okay to swim with a new tattoo?

Avoid swimming in pools, oceans, or hot tubs until your tattoo is fully healed to prevent infection and color damage. "Fully healed" is typically 2 weeks after your visit with no texture.

  • How long do I leave the wrap on?

3 to 5 days. If you are having trouble taking it off, apply food-grade coconut oil to the top of your wrap anklet sit for 15 to 30 minutes. Remove wrap im shower under running water.

  • How long does the healing process take?

Healing typically takes 2 to 4 weeks, but complete skin recovery can take longer depending on size and placement. Tattoos heal from the outside, inward. This allows the body to fight off bacteria externally.

  • What should I do if I notice redness or swelling?

Mild redness is normal, but if swelling, pain, or heat increases, consult with me and we will one up with a plan of action together.

  • Can I wear tight clothing over my new tattoo?

Avoid tight or abrasive clothing that can rub against the tattoo and slow healing or cause irritation.
  • Should I avoid sun exposure during healing?

Yes, direct sun exposure can damage healing skin and fade your tattoo. Keep it covered or shaded until healed.
  • Can I use makeup or cover-up on a fresh tattoo?

It's best to avoid applying makeup or cover-up until the tattoo is fully healed to prevent irritation and infection.
